Thonon Diet

If you’ve ever tried to lose weight, then you probably know how many different diets there are. Some promise great weight loss without much effort, in a short amount of time.

According to the Thonon Diet, it is possible to lose 10 pounds in 14 days. That sounds too good to be true. We explain to you how the diet works, whether the promise is realistic and whether the diet is better than other slimming cures.

What Is The Diet Called Thonon?

The Thonon Diet is nothing more than a crash diet, the origin of which can be traced back to a hospital. The name derives from the French spa town of Thonon-Les-Bains, which is located on Lake Geneva.

With a view to the course and the permitted foods, the cure is similar to the Max Planck diet. The inventors of the Thonon diet are of the opinion that it is enough to consume few calories and at the same time eat high in protein, with some fat allowed. These factors alone are the basis of the fastest and most successful diet, as the French doctors themselves say.

You only need to stick it out for two weeks – almost like the keto or Dukan diet. A phase of consolidation is then recommended in order to avoid the yo-yo effect. If it didn’t work the first time, then the second round follows.

This Is How The Thonon Diet Works

With this diet, you stick to two phases. The first phase is about losing weight: You can eat between 600 and 800 calories a day. This is followed by stabilization: 1200 to 1500 calories per day are now allowed.

Phase one lasts no more than two weeks, this is a precaution to prevent nutrient deficiencies. While in phase two you can expect one week per pound lost. If you have really lost 10 kilos, the stabilization phase lasts 10 weeks. After that, you can start all over again with this diet.

The protein-rich food is divided into three meals a day, with few carbohydrates. With this diet, you take a maximum of up to 20 grams per day. That’s not much, especially since a croissant for breakfast is 400 calories away. You get your energy from fat or protein. You have the choice between vegetable and animal proteins. Actually, it all sounds like the keto diet. An intriguing question arises: What’s on the table for the Thonon diet?

You Can Eat And Drink That

Consuming between 600 and 800 calories a day is a significant adjustment for your body, and calorie counting begins now. In order to stick to the Thonon diet, it is helpful if you follow the diet plan that the inventors have worked out. Finally, it was calculated exactly on which foods the 600 calories are distributed daily.

If you do not eat meat, it is possible to replace these products with plant-based foods such as tofu. You are allowed to drink something, but there is only water and coffee or tea without sugar. The protein-rich diet is maintained in the stabilization phase, only small portions of wholemeal bread from the carbohydrate group are permitted.

The fact that three meals a day are allowed sounds good, but there’s a catch because only black coffee and tea without milk and sugar are allowed for breakfast. Since the coffee only has four calories, even two cups are allowed. During the entire diet, there is no sugar and only a little salt because salty foods increase the risk of water retention. Drinking water is always good, there is no limit to that.

At lunchtime, you eat high protein. A soft-boiled egg has 155 calories, 100 grams of spinach has 23 calories, 100 grams of tomatoes have 21 calories, and 100 grams of cucumber has 16 calories. There are 270 calories in 100 grams of beefsteak and 75 calories in 100 grams of tofu. In the evening, low-fat yogurt with fruit is a variation. Note that 100 grams of bananas have about 90 calories, while 100 grams of peaches only have 45 calories.

Don't Forget To Drink On The Thonon Diet

There’s no limit to water, even if you spice it up with lemon or mint. Nothing speaks against coffee and tea, sometimes it can be a Zero drink. The doctors at the French clinic who developed this diet recommend drinking up to four liters of water during the weight loss phase. It is advisable to drink a large glass of water before breakfast. Fruit juices and alcohol are forbidden because this diet does not contain any sugar.

Thonon Diet Plan for Seven Days

These suggestions come from the doctors of France and are intended for you as an inspiration. Meat, fish and eggs are keto and protein that the body tolerates well.

Day 1 Of Your Thonon Diet

Unsweetened coffee or tea is allowed for breakfast on the first day. For lunch, there are two boiled eggs and steamed spinach without salt (280 calories). Dinner consists of a grilled steak or three patties with lettuce and celery (300 calories).

Day 2

The second day, for breakfast, allows you to drink coffee or tea without sugar, maybe with a little milk. Lunch consists of grilled tomatoes, lettuce, and steak. An alternative is a fruit and a salad of spinach, tomato, cucumber, and chickpeas (300 calories). In the evening, boiled ham is on the menu (150 calories per 100 grams).

Day 3

The third day begins with black coffee and tea without sugar. If that’s not enough for you, treat yourself to a slice of whole wheat bread for 50 calories. At lunchtime, you prepare two boiled eggs, tomatoes, and lettuce. Another variation is a boiled egg with carrots and cheese. In the evening there is ham and lettuce for you (300 calories).

Day 4

As always, breakfast includes unsweetened tea or coffee and a slice of wholemeal bread. Lunch consists of a boiled egg, carrots, and cheese. For dinner, you prepare fruit with yogurt.

Day 5

Also on this day, there is only coffee or tea without sugar for breakfast, but grated carrots. At lunchtime, there is fish in bouillon and tomatoes for a change. When choosing the type of fish, keep in mind that the calories vary greatly. At 125 calories per 100 grams, sea bream, for example, has fewer calories than raw salmon, which has 210 calories. Alternatively, tofu fits, it doesn’t matter whether it’s smoked or not. In contrast, the seitan has 370 calories for the same amount. In the evening you make yourself a protein-rich omelet.

Day 6

For breakfast, there is only coffee or tea without sugar, a slice of wholemeal bread. At lunchtime, you can look forward to fried chicken. Allow 240 calories for 100 grams. In the evening, two boiled eggs with vegetables like carrots are on the menu.

Day 7

For breakfast, there is coffee or tea without sugar. At lunchtime, there is a fried steak or tofu with fruit. In the evening you decide what you want to eat.
That’s the suggestion for a week of dieting, add another week to achieve your goal of losing 20 pounds. Vegetarians replace fish and meat with tofu, vegetarian sausages, meatballs, or steaks.

Is It Advisable To Lose Weight With The Thonon Diet?

In theory, the diet sounds promising – you eat few calories, so you lose weight. But how does it work in practice?

If you are very disciplined and follow the diet plan for 14 days, you will probably lose some weight quickly. Up to 10 pounds is possible, but you have to stick to the plan. This success comes about because the calorie intake is low. In addition, your body loses fluid first and not fat. In the stabilization phase that follows, the calorie intake doubles from 600 to 1200. Your diet becomes richer and a snack is also included.

No matter what crash diet you’re on, the weight loss is only temporary. Although you insert a stabilization phase after the weight loss phase, a yo-yo effect is to be expected. It will happen because your body has been low in calories for a long time. As a result, your metabolism reacts to the emergency because it has less energy available. Once you’ve finished your diet, your body works with less energy, while at the same time preparing for bad times and stocking up. So that this process does not kick in, it is advisable not to lose too much weight in a short period of time.

It is enough if you lose 500 grams in a week, with the daily calorie intake being 1200 calories. In this way, you prevent the yo-yo effect, and you also provide your body with all the necessary nutrients. If you put on a Thonon diet, your body’s supply of nutrients is no longer guaranteed because 600 calories a day are not enough.

In addition, the diet lacks variety because the diet plan is too one-sided. The vitamins and minerals from the permitted foods are not enough. Not every diet is suitable for healthy weight loss, some are even dangerous. You shouldn’t do the Thonon diet for more than two weeks without a break because it’s so extreme.

Based on experience, the Thonon diet is difficult to carry out in everyday life because, for example, you cannot spontaneously eat something with friends because you have to stick to your plan. Tiredness can occur due to a lack of energy, sport is strenuous, which is why it is not advisable during the diet. It’s better for you to decide for yourself whether you want to do sports, after all, your circulatory system has to keep up. It is therefore advisable to limit sport to exercises within your own four walls for the time being. Muscle mass decreases, digestive problems appear due to the low-fiber diet, and the menstrual cycle can change. If the body exposes itself to stress hormones triggered by the diet, weight loss falters.

Consider around 1200 calories as a guide, and eat a balanced diet. Accompany your diet with exercise to burn more calories than your body absorbs. This makes it possible to prevent the yo-yo effect. Nevertheless, weight gain due to increased calorie intake cannot be ruled out.

The Thonon diet is helpful for losing weight quickly and achieving your desired weight, but the result only lasts for a short time. The visible effect is there, you lose weight, but if you want to lose weight permanently, then a long-term change in diet is the key to success. If you fall back into your old eating habits after the stabilization phase, your success will not last long. Instead, try to keep eating small portions, and add salads, and other healthy foods to your diet.

If you do the Thonon diet, the disadvantages that result from it outweigh the disadvantages for you. This diet is unsuitable for long-term nutrition. You are asking a lot of your body by not allowing yourself to eat certain foods. Nevertheless, the yo-yo effect will report. That doesn’t happen to you with a healthy and balanced diet.
